The strain of Saqlawi Jedran Part Two

Ghazieh El Zarqa c.1850 through Serra and Radia/Ghadia

Ghazieh (El Zarqa) was a grey Saqlawiah Jedraniyah of the marbat of Ibn Sudan from Ibn Sudan himself and imported to Egypt for Abbas Pasha prior to 1855. According to Raswan and Upton the breeder of Ghazieh belonged to Ibn Sudan of the Ruala beduins. The Abbas Pasha Manuscript on the other hand affiliates Ibn Sudan with the Saba´ah.

Ghazieh had two daughters and one son by Zobeyni: Horra 1870, Yemameh 1872 and Wazir 1863, all bred by Ali Pasha Sherif. Yemameh was the dam of Mesaoud by Aziz, born 1887, and of Bint Yememah by Saklawi I (see part Three).

Horra (Bint Zobeyni) c.1865, gave Helwa (by Shueyman) c. 1875. From Helwa comes Bint Helwa 1887, "the broken legged mare", who foaled Ghazala El Beida for Ali Pasha Sherif in 1887 (by Ibn Sherara). Ghazala El Beida came in the possession of the Blunts like her mother Bint Helwa. At Sheikh Obeyd in Egypt she gave birth to two important mares: Jemla (Jamila) 1906 by Jamil Blunt  and Ghadia/Radia 1904 by Feysul. Ghazala was later exported to America and gave the mare Gulnare 1914 by Rodan, dam of important Gulastra 1924 by Astraled (Mesaoud X Queen of Sheba).

Ghazala El Beida SGISud 1987 at Sheikh Obeyd

Jamil Blunt 1896 SGISub 1896 and his granddaughter Serra SGISud, born 1915 at Sheikh Obeyd out of Jemla (Jamila) and Sahab.

The second daughter of Ghazala El Beida, Ghadia/Radia 1904 became a very important foundation mare for the R.A.S.:

Ghadia/Radia (Feysul X Ghazala El Beida) 1904 (upper right as foal with her mother),was of pure Ali Pasha Sherif/Abbas Pasha blood, a "firstclass foal" as noted by her breeder, Lady Anne Blunt.

Through her daughter Bint Radia 1920 (right) by Mabrouk Manial she became one of the most important mares of Egyptian breeding: Bint Radia gave the fabulous three: Shahloul 1931, Hamdan 1936, Samira 1935, all by Ibn Rabdan 1917:

Bint Radia as young and aged mare

The two sons of Bint Radia by Ibn Rabdan: Shahloul and Hamdan (right), both famous as sires of broodmares of outstanding type like Bukra, Moniet el Nefous, Maisa, Shahbaa and many others.

Samira 1935 (left) by Ibn Rabdan and her daughter Zaafarana 1946 by Balance

Also a branch of Bint Radia exists through her daughter Zam Zam by Gamil III, that did not reach great importance. In Germany Salha 1967 (Sameh X Saklawia II) and Golson 1972 (Tuhotmos X Tamara) were quite influential:

Salha 1967 (Sameh X Saklawia II) and Golson 1972 (Tuhotmos X Tamara)

At Inshass another daughter of Bint Radia, Zareefa 1911 by Sahab, gained influence through her grandson El Moez 1934 (Ibn Fayda X Bint Zareefa) and greatgreatgrandson Antar/Anter 1946 by Hamdan:

El Moez 1934 (Ibn Fayda X Zareefa), sire of Sameh, and Antar 1946 (Hamdan X Obeya) (right)

Ibn Fayda 1927 (Ibn Rabdan X Fayda/Feyda Blunt 1910),left,  and his maternal granddam Ghazieh 1897 (Ibn Nura X Bint Horra) of the Ghazieh line.

Ghazieh 1879 (Ibn Nura X Bint Horra) and her daughter Ghazwa 1901 by Feysul with Lady Anne Blunt

Another line out of Abbas Pasha´s Ghazieh El Zarka has been associated with the Koheilan Jellabi strain through Bint Yamama of Khedive Abbas Pasha Hilmi II for decades. This has been objected by some and because of the mDNA tests done it has been shown, that Bint Yamama descends from the same line as Ghazieh. More in Part Three of the Saqlawiyat

Through Roga El Beida c.1890, bred by Ali Pasha Sherif, another, much greater line of Saqlawi Jedran exists in Egyptian breeding, a line bringing forth to the world famous "Queen of the Nile" Moniet El Nefous 1946. Traditionally also associated with the Abbas Pasha mare Ghazieh c.1850, recent scientific research has proven this wrong. Questions to this descent have long existed. More in Part Four of the Saqlawi Jedran Strain.

Bint Helwa 1887 SGISud, bred by Ali Pasha Sherif, the "broken legged mare" at Crabbet Park, is a direct descended of the mare Ghazieh c. 1850

Hamasa 1902 (Mesaoud X Bint Helwa), dam of Hamran and Johara 1880 (Aziz X Helwa), full sister of Bint Helwa at Crabbet Park. (Hamran by Berk was bought by the RAS from Lady Wentworth and gave Helwa, a Dahman Shahwan mare out of Bint Farida, dam of Nefisa)

Bint Serra (Sotamm X Serra) 1923 SGISud as young (above) and aged mare (down). Bint Serra was imported to America by Babson and is the tail female mare of our stallion Safeen 1991. For a detailed presentation  of Safeen´s damline click here.

Mahasin 1942 (Sheikh El Arab X Kasbana)
