The strain of Koheilan Rodan

The horses of today belonging to the strain Koheilan Ajuz Ibn Rodan or Koheilan Rodan have their origin in one mare, Rodania, bought by the Blunts from the Ruala tribe. According to the Abbas Pasha Manuscript the Koheilan Rodan horses are from old times. From the Beni Khaled they had passed to the Shammar and later to Funaykh of al Shaalan of the Ruala. Funaykh gave one mare to Rodan, a relative of Shaalan. But Rodan sold the mare to al Sab´a (Sebaa, S´baa) . In a battle between the Bishr ( Fedaan, Sebaa and Amarat) and the Ruala many horses were catured by the Ruallas, among them two Koheila mares of Rodan.

Rodania was a chestnut mare foaled 1869She was bred by Ibn Rodan and captured from Sotamm Ibn Shaalan, Sheikh of the Ruala in 1880, by Tais Ibn Sarhan of the Gomussa (Sebaa), who sold her to Mr. Blunt. An old and celebrated mare, formerly the property of Beneyeh Ibn Shaalan, and a cause of feud between him and his kinsman Sotamm. The Blunts had heared of her two years before they first saw her. Tais Ibn Sharhan was riding her and told them when asked: "Oh, that is Beneyeh Ibn Shaalan´s mare.

Rodania was the only mare at Crabbet Park with ill temper. "She strikes with her forefeet and kicks too. Her strange temper may possibly be the result of having been knocked about and especially the severe firing she had undergone before we bought her." Today the damline of Rodania is the largest  in number worldwide.
